Is Jesus calling you to be a Catholic priest? It's not an easy question to answer. It takes prayer and study to to discover your true vocation.
Across the state of Iowa, at various colleges and universities, vocational discernment groups meet to assist young men who are considering and/or wrestling with the possibility that God may be calling them to a life of priestly ministry. These groups usually consist of college-aged men, but welcome both high-school and older men as well, who love Jesus Christ and His Church, and who are willing to talk with other like-minded men about their future. These groups are discernment groups - a place to explore vocation options - not a priesthood training or recruiting groups. Therefore, those who attend and what is discussed remains private.
These groups, sponsored by the Vocations Offices of each diocese, give men the information they need to adequately discern their vocational calling in a group that offers fraternal support. These discernment groups can be lead by a vocation director, the campus chaplain, a lay campus minister, or a student leader.
The group meetings aren't meant to convince anyone that the priesthood is their vocation. But if you're a faithful Catholic man - even if you're currently dating - at some point you have to ask yourself whether God is calling you to be a priest. Men who participate in these groups get the answers they need to discover if the priesthood is their true vocation, and build their relationships with Christ along the way.
For the 2012-13 Academic Calendar year there are active groups in the following locations:
