Encounter With God's Call |
A common experience for young men is to make trips to colleges they may be interested in attending. The idea behind this practice is to check out the students, facilities, classes, faculty and the general atmosphere of the school. Conception Seminary College in Conception, Missouri has taken this type of approach and developed a program called "Encounter With God’s Call" and offers it as a service to young men who could profit from some first-hand contact with seminary life. It provides them with an opportunity to become part of the community for a few days and experience the human, spiritual and academic components of priestly discernment and formation. Conception Seminary College is located in Northwest Missouri (about 15 miles from Maryville). Every spring and fall the seminarians of Conception College host this event whereby you spend two nights on campus, attend a few classes, pray with the community, meet the students and staff, have fun, and see if God may be asking you to give seminary life and studies a try. Fr. Brad Pelzel, the Vocation Director for the diocese, will accompany you there, and be around to answer questions and help you in your discernment. There is no charge and Fr. Brad can provide transportation. To find out more contact the Vocation Office for the Diocese of Sioux City at (712) 233-7523 or e-mail Fr. Brad at
