The Daily Prayer Calendar to support Vocations in the Diocese of Sioux City, originally designed and promoted by the Divine Mercy Cenacle of St. Joseph Parish, Wesley, has been updated.  Recently ordained priest, Fr. Pat Behm, has been added, deceased priests have been removed (although it is still a worthy work of mercy to continue praying for them) and the notations on which priests are now retired has been added.

The Prayer Calendar can be found under the "Support Vocations" tab on the main page.  Click on the tab, scroll down and click on the "Resources" page heading, and once that page opens up, click on the "Parish Vocations Promotions Documents" heading.  The updated Calendar is at the top of the list.  OR, you can just click "HERE" to jump to the updated calendar!

Priestly Discernment Group meeting schedule set!

Every Catholic man should at least consider the priesthood as an option.  Is Jesus calling you to be a Catholic priest?  It's not an easy question to answer.  Whether or not you feel a strong attraction to the Catholic priesthood, it takes prayer and study to discover what your true vocation is.

Beginning September 13, 2013 the Diocese of Sioux City's Office of Vocations will be holding a priestly discernment group meeting on the 2nd Thursday of every month during the 2012-13 Briar Cliff University Academic School year.  Beginning with a meal in the Stark Student Center at 5:00 PM, the discernment group will meet in Heelan Hall from 5:45 - 7:15 PM.  This meeting, utilizing the very successful "Melchizedek Project" program, will focus on its discussions by reviewing and reflecting on sections of the inspiring book "To Save A Thousand Souls" by Fr. Brett Brannen (book will be provided free of charge).  The structure of the meeting will be a meal followed by review and discussion.  A Holy Hour featuring Confession, Adoration and Benediction will be offered after the meeting ends and the Holy Hour will be followed by the Holy Mass at 9:00 PM.

Goals of the meetings are threefold: RESPECT PRIVACY - everything discussed or shared at the meeting will be held as confidential by all participants, including the names of the participants.  LOW PRESSURE - this is a discernment group - that is a place to explore vocation options, not a priesthood training or recruiting group.  BUILD FRATERNITY - the men who participate in the Melchizedek Project get the answers they need by sharing their thoughts, hopes, concerns, and fellowship with the other men in the group.  Participants in the Melchizedek Project get the answers they need to discover if the priesthood is their true vocation, and build friendships and their relationship with Christ along the way.

New Video about Men and Faith!

A new video featuring Fr. Larry Richards, John Bradford and Andrew Maynard is now available for viewing in our Video section under the "Discernment" heading as the second video on the page.

While not dealing specifically with priestly vocational discernment in the sense of directly talking about thoughts and feelings one encounters when they are trying to discern God's will for them, this video addresses a more basic issue related to discernment, that is the manhood and manly actions that all guys are called to, that is to be first and foremost a man of God.
