The December 31, 2009 edition of the SiouxLand Serra Club Newsletter has been released, is posted on this website and is available to be viewed, downloaded or printed.  Many thanks to Tim and Lisa Swedean for their efforts in collecting and formatting the the articles.  The newsletter may be accessed by clicking on the "Serra Newsletter" heading found under the "News" tab that is featured as one of the tabs on the top of this webpage, by clicking on the "Serra Club" heading found under the "Resources" tab on the top of this webpage or simply clicking on the highlighted words at the beginning of this announcement.

 
2009 Seminarian Convocation speakers podcasts are now available!

The 2009 State of Iowa Seminarian Convocation featured 2 speakers.  Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers and His Excellency, Archbishop Jerome Hanus of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.  Deacon Harold gave 3 talks on life issues, the relationship between truth and freedom and where the "why" of the Catholic Church's positions on these Issues.  Archbishop Hanus spoke to the gathered seminarians on the facts and history of immigration into Iowa, the issues that surround the undocumented Hispanic workers and immigrants in Iowa, and stories related to their living here.
 
Knights of Columbus provide new Vocations Posters

The Knights of Columbus have provided 7 new posters for use by parish vocations committees.  These posters are taken from the back covers of the K of C's "Columbia Magazine" and highlight the vocational calls of individual men to different religious vocations.  Ideal for use on parish or school bulletin boards, classrooms, youth group activities, etc., these posters are available under the "Support Vocations" column and can be accessed by clicking on the "resources" button and then the "posters" button or simply by clicking >here<.  These posters, available under the pdf. format can be either opened and looked at or copied and printed.  Thank you Knights of Columbus for your ongoing support of priestly and religious vocations! 
 
Saint Joseph Communications grants permission to post discernment talk as podcast

Saint Joseph Communications, the largest international Catholic audio and video reproduction and distribution company in the United States, has generously granted permission for the Diocese of Sioux City to copy and post on its "Thinking of Priesthood" website the 3 - CD set of talks by Fr. Brett Brannen as podcasts.  Father Brett relates 18 specific signs and characteristics of those called to the priesthood, the question parents must ask to help their children discern their vocation, and the necessary virtues required to assist young men in knowing if God is calling them to the priesthood.
